New Peoria Handicap Calculator | Draw the Hidden Holes, Calculate Handicaps and Net Scores and Rank a Golf Competition Automatically, Double Peoria and 6-Hole Peoria, Double Par Cap, Handicap Limit 36, Tie-Breaks, Booby Prize, Best Gross and a Handicap Chart
The New Peoria Handicap Calculator is a free tool for golf competition organisers who need to work out New Peoria handicaps and build a leaderboard on the spot. Enter the par of each of the 18 holes and draw the hidden holes: the tool picks 6 holes from the front nine and 6 from the back nine (one par 3, one par 5 and four par 4s each), 12 holes with a total par of 48. Enter each player's score hole by hole, or paste a table from Excel or Google Sheets, and it calculates handicap = (hidden-hole total × 1.5 − course par) × 0.8 and net = gross − handicap, then ranks everyone by net score. You can switch to the original 6-hole Peoria system (× 3). Local rules are adjustable: the per-hole cap on hidden holes (double par or par + 3), the handicap limit (36, 40, 48 or none), rounding, negative handicaps, and how to break ties on net score (lower handicap or older player). Winner, runner-up, 3rd place, skip prizes, booby prize, last place and best gross are assigned automatically, and you can copy the results or save them as CSV. There is also a one-player calculator that shows each step of the formula, and a chart of handicaps for each hidden-hole total.

You don't have to enter all 18 holes: the hidden-hole scores plus the gross score are enough for the handicap and net score (if some holes are blank, type the gross score into the gross column).
Paste from Excel or a spreadsheet
Paste a table with one player per line, in the order name, then holes 1 to 18. Front-nine, back-nine and total columns are skipped if present.

Good to know
- A New Peoria handicap is (total of the 12 hidden holes × 1.5 − course par) × 0.8, and a Peoria handicap is (total of the 6 hidden holes × 3 − course par) × 0.8. The net score is the gross score minus the handicap.
- New Peoria and Double Peoria use the same formula and most competitions treat the names as the same thing. Strictly, Double Peoria picks 6 holes from each nine (one par 3, one par 5 and four par 4s), and the draw in this tool follows that rule.
- The score on each hidden hole is usually capped at double par, so 9 strokes on a par 4 counts as 8. The gross score stays as the actual number of strokes.
- A handicap limit of 36 is common, but some competitions use 40, 48 or no limit. You can also type in any limit.
- If the hidden-hole total is low and the formula gives a negative handicap, the default sets it to 0 (you can keep it negative instead).
- When two players have the same net score, you can rank the player with the lower handicap (the better gross score) or the older player first.
- Your entries are saved only in this browser and are never sent to a server.

FAQ
- How is a New Peoria handicap calculated?
- Multiply the total of the 12 hidden holes by 1.5 to scale it to 18 holes, subtract the course par (usually 72) and multiply by 0.8. For a hidden-hole total of 64: 64 × 1.5 = 96, 96 − 72 = 24, 24 × 0.8 = 19.2, so the handicap is 19.2. With a gross score of 95 the net score is 95 − 19.2 = 75.8.
- What is the difference between New Peoria and Double Peoria?
- Both use 12 hidden holes and the same formula, (total × 1.5 − par) × 0.8. Double Peoria is often described as choosing 6 holes from each nine with one par 3, one par 5 and four par 4s, and New Peoria as choosing any 12 holes with a total par of 48, but in practice competitions use the two names almost interchangeably.
- How does the original 6-hole Peoria system work?
- There are 6 hidden holes (one par 3, one par 5 and four par 4s, total par 24). Multiply their total by 3, subtract the par and multiply by 0.8. For a 6-hole total of 30: 30 × 3 = 90, 90 − 72 = 18, 18 × 0.8 = 14.4, so the handicap is 14.4. With fewer hidden holes, a single hole has a much bigger effect on the handicap.
- What hidden-hole total gives the handicap limit of 36?
- On a par 72 course under New Peoria, a 12-hole total of 78 (an average of 6.5 strokes a hole) gives exactly 36, and anything higher is capped at 36. Under 6-hole Peoria, a total of 39 gives 36.
- What is the double par cap on hidden holes?
- To stop one disastrous hole inflating the handicap, the score on each hidden hole is capped at twice its par: 6 on a par 3, 8 on a par 4 and 10 on a par 5. Some courses cap it at par + 3 (a triple bogey) instead.
- How are ties on net score broken?
- It's best to agree before the competition, but the usual rules are “the lower handicap (better gross) ranks higher” or “the older player ranks higher”. This tool lets you choose either, or keep tied players on the same position.
