Moving To-Do List | Procedure Deadlines, Order & What to Bring, Counted Back from Your Moving Day (Move-out/Move-in Notices, 14 Days, Calendar / Free, No Sign-up)
The Moving To-Do List is a free tool that lines up everything you need to do, with deadline dates, in chronological order. Enter your moving day (the day you start living in the new home), choose whether you are moving to another city or within the same city, and tick what applies: rental, My Number card, National Health Insurance, elementary or junior high school children, child allowance, car, motorbike, dog, and so on. Deadlines set by law, such as the 14 days for a move-in or change-of-address notice (Basic Resident Register Act), the 15-day special rule for child allowance, the 15 days for changing the address on a vehicle inspection certificate, and the 30 days for changing a dog registration, are shown as "Legal deadline" together with their basis, and if a due date falls on a weekend, public holiday or the year-end/New Year break, the previous day when the office is open is shown. For each counter, such as the office for your old address and the office for your new address, it also lists the procedures you can finish together and what to bring. Tick off finished items and save them on your device, and add the deadlines to iPhone, Android or Google Calendar as .ics with a notification the day before. You can share your conditions with family by URL. What you enter is never sent to a server.

About Moving To-Do List | Procedure Deadlines, Order & What to Bring, Counted Back from Your Moving Day (Move-out/Move-in Notices, 14 Days, Calendar / Free, No Sign-up)
The Moving To-Do List is a tool that lines up everything you need to do, with deadline dates, in chronological order. Enter your moving day (the day you start living in the new home) and tick what applies (rental, using movers, My Number card, National Health Insurance, elementary or junior high school children, child allowance, car, motorbike, dog and so on). Tasks are grouped into "Up to 1 month before", "2–4 weeks before", "1–2 weeks before", "Up to the day before", "Moving day", "Within 15 days after the move" and "Within 1 month", covering lease cancellation, booking movers, bulky waste, utilities, mail forwarding (e-Tenkyo), move-out and move-in notices, My Number card address change, driver's license, vehicle inspection certificate, child allowance and dog registration. Deadlines set by law, such as the 14 days for the move-in notice, are shown with their basis, and if the due date falls on a weekend, public holiday or year-end/New Year break, the previous day when the office is open is shown too. It also supports a list of what to bring for each counter, saved checks, calendar export (.ics) and sharing by URL with family.

Good to know
- Deadlines are calculated as "days before or after your moving day". Those set by law (14 days for the move-in/change-of-address notice, the 15-day child allowance rule, 15 days for the vehicle inspection certificate, 30 days for dog registration, etc.) are marked "Legal deadline"; the rest are guidelines based on how busy things get and how long arrangements take.
- "Within 14 days" is counted from the day after you start living there, not counting the first day (Civil Code Article 140). If you start living there on November 1, the deadline is November 15.
- Office counters are treated as closed on weekends, public holidays and the year-end/New Year break (12/29–1/3), and when a deadline falls on one of those days the previous open day is shown. Holiday opening and whether a deadline moves to the next open day differ by municipality, so check the office's website.
- If you have a My Number card, you can also file the move-out notice online through the My Number Portal's moving one-stop service. Even then, you still need to go to the counter at the new address's office for the move-in notice.
- Failing to file a move-in or change-of-address notice by the deadline without a justifiable reason can result in a fine of up to 50,000 yen (Basic Resident Register Act Article 52).
- Address changes for company health insurance and employees' pension are made through your employer, so they are combined into "Notify your employer of your new address". National Pension generally needs no notice if it is linked to your My Number.
- The dates, conditions and checks you enter are saved only in this device's browser and are never sent to a server.

FAQ
- From when can I file a move-out notice?
- Many municipalities accept it from about 14 days before the move (when acceptance starts differs by municipality). The rule is to file before moving, but many municipalities still accept it within 14 days after the move. With a My Number card you can also file online through the My Number Portal.
- How do I count the "within 14 days" for the move-in notice?
- Count the day after you start living in the new home as day 1. If you start living there on November 1, the deadline is November 15. Enter your moving day in this tool and it shows the deadline date, and if that day is a weekend or public holiday it also shows the previous day when the office is open.
- What do I need to do when moving within the same city?
- You don't need a move-out or move-in notice; you file a "change-of-address notice" within 14 days of starting to live there. Rewriting the address on your My Number card and changing your address for National Health Insurance and child allowance can be done at the same counter. Choose "Within the same city/town" and the list switches accordingly.
- What is the child allowance "15-day special rule"?
- When you move to another municipality, if you apply for certification at the new address's office within 15 days of the day after your planned move-out date, the allowance continues without a gap. After 15 days, payment starts from the month after you apply, and some months may go unpaid.
- By when should I contact electricity, gas and water?
- About one week before is the guideline. Gas in particular requires someone to be present for the start-up at the new home, so booking a time on the moving day or the day after early lets you use the bath and stove from that day. Booking even earlier is recommended during the busy March–April season.
- Can I put the tasks in my phone's calendar?
- Press "Add unfinished items to calendar (.ics)" and a file is saved that adds all-day events on each deadline. Open it in iPhone Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook or similar to register them, and you get a notification the day before. To add them one by one, use "Add to Google Calendar" under "Details & what to bring" for each item.
- By when and where do I change the address on my car?
- Within 15 days of the address change, you file a change registration for the vehicle inspection certificate (Road Transport Vehicle Act Article 12). For a standard car, first get a parking certificate at the police station for the new address, then do the procedure at the Transport Bureau. For a kei car it is the Kei Car Inspection Organization. If the jurisdiction changes, the license plate changes too.
