Fave Sorter Maker | Rank Characters, Songs & Members by “Which Do You Like More?” (Custom Sorter, Ties, Undo, Share by URL / Free, No Sign-up)

Fave Sorter Maker is a free tool that turns any list — characters, songs, idol group members, foods — into your own sorter (character sorter, song sorter) just by writing one item per line. Pick “Which do you like more?” between two items and a merge sort builds your ranking. When you can’t decide, choose “Tie” to rank them equally, and fix mistakes with “Back one”. It shows the maximum number of questions for your list (up to 27 for 10 items, 220 for 47) and a progress bar. Close it midway and resume later on the same device, and share your sorter with friends by URL. Copy your top 10 or full ranking as text, or share it via a results URL or a post on X. Your items are never sent to a server.

About Fave Sorter Maker | Rank Characters, Songs & Members by “Which Do You Like More?” (Custom Sorter, Ties, Undo, Share by URL / Free, No Sign-up)

Fave Sorter Maker lets you build your own sorter (character sorter, song sorter) for anything you want to rank — characters, songs, idol group members, foods — just by writing one item per line. Pick “Which do you like more?” between the two shown, and the tool stitches your answers together (merge sort) into a ranking. It doesn’t compare every pair, so 10 items take at most 27 questions and even 47 items at most 220. Choose “Tie” for two you can’t decide between, and fix a mistaken press with “Back one”. Answers are saved on this device, so you can resume after closing. Share your sorter with friends by URL, and share results as top-10 or full-ranking text, a results URL, or a post on X.

Great for

  • Decide the ranking of your favorite characters or group members yourself
  • Make a ranking of your favorite songs (album or discography)
  • Make your own sorter for a genre no existing sorter covers
  • Share your sorter with friends or followers and compare results
  • Prioritize places to go or things to eat when there are too many candidates
  • Rank VTubers, anime, or game characters and post the result on X

Good to know

  • Items are ranked with merge sort. It compares pairs first, then merges ordered lists, so you don’t have to answer every combination (1,081 for 47 items). The “up to N more” shown is the maximum with no ties; ties or lopsided answers finish sooner.
  • Two items you tie become equal and are compared as one group from then on. They share a rank in the results, and the next rank skips accordingly (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 4th).
  • Even when your preferences are inconsistent (A > B, B > C, but C > A), it combines your answers into one ranking in the order you were asked. If that bothers you, use “Do it myself / redo with the same items” to try again in a different order and see how stable the result is.
  • Turning on “Shuffle the order” reduces the bias of the order you wrote them in (items written higher appear sooner). With it off, sorting starts in the order you wrote.
  • You can enter 2–300 items, up to 60 characters each. Duplicate names are merged, and leading “・”, “-”, or “1.” are removed.
  • A share URL contains the items and title as they are (and the order of answers for a results URL). With many items the URL gets long and may be cut off by some services.
  • Your items and answers are saved only in this browser and never sent to a server.

FAQ

How do I make a fave sorter?
Just write the names of the characters or songs you want to rank, one per line, and press “Start sorting”. No programming or sign-up needed. Press “Copy this sorter’s URL” to share the same sorter with friends.
How many questions will I have to answer?
It depends on the number of items. Without ties, the maximum is 27 for 10 items, 73 for 20, 220 for 47, and 589 for 100. The maximum remaining is shown under the input and while sorting. Using ties finishes sooner.
What if I can’t decide, or don’t know an item?
Press “Tie” to give the two the same rank. If you tie items you don’t know, they end up grouped at the same rank. To remove them from the start, go to “Stop and rebuild” and delete them.
Can I undo a wrong press?
“Back one” (Backspace on a keyboard) cancels your last answer. You can go back as many times as you like, and even after finishing, “Fix the last answer” takes you back one question.
Can I stop and continue later?
Yes. Each answer is saved in this browser, so if you open it again on the same device and browser you can continue where you left off. It may not be saved in private browsing.
How can it rank everything without asking every pair?
If A is preferred to B and B to C, it assumes A is preferred to C and skips pairs it can already infer. It uses merge sort, joining ordered lists two at a time, which finishes in about a fifth of the questions needed to ask every pair (1,081 for 47 items).
Can I share my results on X (Twitter)?
“Post on X” opens a post with your top 5. To include the full ranking, paste the text from “Copy full ranking”, or share a link that shows the ranking with “Copy results URL”.
