ABOUT
About Print Graph Paper, Handwriting Lines & Manuscript Paper | Paper Maker in mm
The graph & lined paper maker lets you print paper such as graph paper, 4-line handwriting paper, and manuscript paper on the spot, choosing cell size, line color and weight, and margins in millimeters. You can make 10 kinds: graph paper (1–20 mm, thicker line every 5 cells), dot grid, ruled paper (A 7 mm, B 6 mm, C 5 mm), 4-line handwriting paper (red third line as the baseline), kanji practice grids (dotted cross guides and faint tracing characters), Japanese manuscript paper (vertical or horizontal, with space for ruby), music staff and 6-line guitar / 4-line bass tab, isometric triangle grid, hex grid, and Cornell notes. Choose A4, B5, A5, B4, A3, or Letter in portrait or landscape, and see how many cells or lines fit on a sheet. The paper is drawn as an SVG in millimeters, so if you set the print scale to 100% (actual size), 5 mm graph paper is exactly 5 mm on paper. A 50 mm check ruler at the bottom lets you confirm with a ruler that it wasn’t shrunk. You can also save as PNG (300 dpi) or SVG to use as a template in note apps like GoodNotes.

Good to know
- When printing, set the scale to “100%”, “Actual size”, or “Original size”, and turn off “Fit to paper” or “Shrink to fit”. If left on, it shrinks by a few percent and 5 mm graph paper becomes about 4.8 mm.
- Put a ruler on the check ruler at the bottom: if it measures 50 mm, it printed at actual size. If it’s shorter, it was shrunk — review your print settings.
- Home printers usually can’t print within about 3–5 mm of the paper edge. Setting the margin to 0 can cut off lines at the edges, so 5 mm or more is safer.
- B5 and B4 follow Japan’s JIS standard (B5 is 182 × 257 mm), which is slightly different from the international ISO B5 (176 × 250 mm).
- Model characters in the kanji practice grid use a textbook-style font installed on your computer or phone (such as UD Digi Kyokasho). Devices without one show a Mincho font instead, so stroke endings may look slightly different from a textbook.
- PNGs are exported at 300 dpi (slightly lower for A3 and B4 to fit device limits). For printing, SVG or “Save as PDF” in the print dialog keeps lines sharp when enlarged.
- Settings are saved in this browser so you can start from the same paper next time. All paper is generated inside your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

FAQ
- The cells on my printed graph paper are smaller than 5 mm. Why?
- If “Fit to paper” or “Shrink to fit” is on in your print settings, the printer shrinks everything by a few percent to fit its printable area. Set the scale to “100%” or “Actual size” in the print dialog. Put a ruler on the 50 mm check ruler at the bottom to confirm it printed at actual size.
- How wide are A, B, and C ruled lines?
- Typical notebook line spacing in Japan is 7 mm for A ruled, 6 mm for B ruled, 5 mm for C ruled, and 8 mm for U ruled. B ruled (6 mm) is the most common for notebooks and loose-leaf; C ruled suits small handwriting and A ruled roomy writing. This tool makes any spacing from 3 mm to 15 mm.
- Why is the third line of the 4-line paper red?
- The third line from the top is the baseline, which most letters sit on. Only g, j, p, q, and y go below it, so a red baseline helps children and beginners find where letters go. You can also turn the red off or make the second line dotted.
- How many characters does the manuscript paper hold?
- It fits as many cells as possible from the cell size, ruby spacing, paper size, and margin, and shows rows × characters above the preview. For the common 400-character sheet (20 × 20), use vertical writing, B4 landscape, 11 mm cells, 50% ruby spacing, and a 15 mm margin.
- How should I choose the hex size?
- You set the distance between opposite sides of each hexagon (the hex width). For board and miniature games, 1 inch (25.4 mm) is standard; for just drawing maps without pieces, about 12–16 mm is easy to draw on. The number of hexes per sheet is shown above the preview.
- Can I use it as a template in note apps like GoodNotes?
- Yes. “Save as PNG” creates a 2480 × 3508 px image (300 dpi) for A4; import it via the app’s “Import template” or “Add cover / paper”. For apps that want a PDF, use “Print” and set the destination to “Save as PDF”.
- What are Cornell notes?
- A note-taking method devised at Cornell University in the US that divides a page into a cue column (left), a notes column (right), and a summary area (bottom). Write in the notes column during class, then add key points and questions to the cue column, and finally summarize the page at the bottom — making notes easy to review.
