Red Sheet Study Sheet Maker | Vanishing Color Codes, Fill-in-the-Blank Worksheets & Phone Flashcards

Red Sheet Study Sheet Maker is a free tool: just wrap the terms you want to memorize in 【 】 in your textbook or notes, and it makes a study sheet with orange or red text that disappears under a red sheet (a red film used for memorization), a fill-in-the-blank worksheet with numbered blanks ①② and an answer key at the end, or a one-question-per-line Q&A table. Print on A4 or save as PDF. The vanishing color checker answers “Which colors disappear under a red sheet?”: enter a text color (a Word standard color, red pen, pink, etc.) or a marker (check pen) color as a color code, and it judges whether it vanishes under a red or green sheet and whether it is easy to read without the sheet, then suggests colors that satisfy both. A test-print color swatch lets you verify with your own printer and sheet. On a phone, memorize with a red sheet you can drag with your finger or a tap-to-reveal view, and record ○× in Q&A mode to repeat only the questions you have not learned. Export for Anki (CSV), Quizlet and Excel is also supported. Your text is handled only in your browser and is never sent to a server.

About Red Sheet Study Sheet Maker | Vanishing Color Codes, Fill-in-the-Blank Worksheets & Phone Flashcards

Red Sheet Study Sheet Maker turns text with the terms you want to memorize wrapped in 【 】 into a study sheet in a color that vanishes under a red sheet, a fill-in-the-blank worksheet with ①② blanks and an answer key, or a one-question-per-line Q&A table, which you can print on A4 or save as PDF. The vanishing color checker, which answers “Which colors disappear under a red sheet?”, takes a text color or marker (check pen) color as a color code and judges whether it vanishes under a red or green sheet and whether it is easy to read without the sheet, then suggests colors that satisfy both. On a phone, you can memorize with a red sheet you drag with your finger or a tap-to-reveal view, and record ○× in Q&A mode to repeat only the questions you have not learned. Export for Anki, Quizlet and Excel is also supported.

  3. 3In “Make worksheet / Print”, choose the worksheet type (red sheet, fill-in-the-blank or Q&A), plus the color of hidden terms and the font size
  4. 4Check the look in the preview, then save as PDF with “Print on A4” or “Open in a new tab”
  5. 5If you are worried about color, judge it with the “Vanishing color checker” and verify with your own printer and sheet using “Test print (color swatch)”
  6. 6On a phone, use “Red sheet & Q&A on screen” to memorize by moving the red sheet, and mark ○× in Q&A mode
  7. 7If you use a flashcard app, copy or save with “Export to Anki / Quizlet”

Great for

  • You want to print your textbook summary as a worksheet you can hide with a red sheet
  • You want to know the vanishing color codes when making red-sheet materials in Word or PowerPoint
  • You want to check which of orange, pink and red pens disappear under a red sheet
  • You want fill-in-the-blank worksheets and answer keys made automatically
  • You want to make a quick quiz (Q&A) to hand out in class or at a cram school
  • You do not have a red sheet and want to memorize like with one on your phone screen
  • You want to turn terms in your summary notes into Anki or Quizlet flashcards

Good to know

  • A red sheet only lets red light (wavelengths longer than about 600 nm) through, so white paper looks red, and orange, red and pink text becomes as bright as the paper and vanishes. Black, blue and green text does not let the light through, so it stays dark. This property is calculated from the difference in color lightness (CIE L*).
  • The judgment is an estimate based on on-screen color calculations. Home printers convert screen colors into ink (cyan, magenta, yellow) when printing, so the same color code can look different depending on the model, ink and paper. For important worksheets, verify with “Test print (color swatch)”.
  • Yellow and Word’s standard “Orange (#FFC000)” vanish well under a red sheet, but look faint and hard to read on white paper without the sheet. Colors that both vanish and stay readable are oranges around #FF7A00, red #FF0000, and bright pink.
  • Word’s standard “Dark red (#C00000)” and dark red ballpoint ink may still remain faintly dark under a red sheet.
  • A green sheet mainly lets green light through, so a text color that vanishes under it would be a bright green, which is hard to read without the sheet. A green sheet works best by hiding black text under a pink or red-ish marker (for a red sheet, use a green or blue-ish marker).
  • Your text and ○× records are saved only inside your browser (localStorage) and are never sent to a server. “Copy URL with text” puts the text in the URL, so it is limited to 1,500 characters.

FAQ

What are the color codes that vanish under a red sheet?
For printing, oranges around #FF7A00, red #FF0000, and bright pink around #FF4FA0 vanish well under a red sheet and are still readable without it. Among Word’s standard colors, “Red (#FF0000)” is a good choice. “Dark red (#C00000)” stays dark even under a red sheet, and “Orange (#FFC000)” vanishes but looks faint without the sheet. Colors change depending on the printer, so verify with a test print.
Which vanishes under a red sheet, orange or pink?
Both reflect a lot of red light, so they vanish under a red sheet. However, dark orange, dark red and purplish pink reflect less red light and remain faintly visible. A bright, vivid orange is the safest choice. Enter a color code close to your pen color in the checker to see whether it vanishes and how readable it is without the sheet.
What colors vanish under a green sheet?
Under a green sheet, bright green and yellow-green text vanishes, but it is faint and hard to read on white paper. That is why a green sheet is generally used by drawing a pink or red-ish marker over black text, so that the marker turns dark under the sheet and the black text can no longer be seen. To do the same with a red sheet, use a green or blue-ish marker (check pen).
Why does a check pen make black text disappear?
A check pen is a transparent green (or blue) ink drawn over black text. A red sheet only lets red light through, so the green marker area no longer reflects red light and turns dark, becoming as dark as the black text underneath and impossible to tell apart. With “Hide black text with a marker” in the checker, you can see whether the marker color is hidden under a red or green sheet.
How is the length of the blanks in a fill-in-the-blank worksheet decided?
With “Match the number of characters in the answer”, a full-width character counts as 1 and a half-width character as about 0.55, and a little margin is added to the length of the answer (minimum 3 characters, maximum 16 characters). With “All the same length”, every blank matches the longest answer, so you cannot guess the answer from the blank length. The numbers (①②…) match the numbers in the answer key.
How do I import into Anki or Quizlet?
Choose a format in “Export to Anki / Quizlet”. For Anki, save a CSV file (column 1 = question with the term blanked out, column 2 = answer) and import it with Anki’s “Import File”. For Quizlet, copy the text in the form with a tab between term and definition and a line break between cards, and paste it into the “Import” box. For Excel or spreadsheets, paste the TSV (number, question, answer) and it splits into columns.
Can I memorize like with a red sheet on my phone alone?
Yes. In “Red sheet & Q&A on screen”, drag the red sheet up and down with your finger and the orange terms under it become invisible. With “Tap to reveal”, the terms are lined up hidden and only the term you tap becomes visible. In Q&A mode, your ○× records are kept and you can repeat “only the questions not learned yet”.
