Uchiwa Lettering Maker | Make Idol Fan-Service Fan Text with Double and Triple Outlines and Print It at Actual Size Across A4 Sheets
Create and print lettering to stick on fan-service uchiwa (handheld fans for idol concerts) and connected letter fans, right in your browser. Enter your text and pick a member color to get black text with a white outline and a member-color outline (double or triple outlines). The tool automatically calculates the largest size that fits the official size guideline (29 cm tall × 26 cm wide), a jumbo fan, or a fan you measured yourself, leaving a margin from the edge. Sizes that do not fit on A4 are split with a 10 mm overlap, and the paper itself shows which sheet goes where. It also supports connected fans with one big letter per fan, ink-free outline-only templates, mirror flipping for tracing onto the back of colored paper or cutting sheets, cut lines, and a transparent PNG of the text only. Fonts: extra-bold gothic, rounded gothic, pop, and brush script.
Use line breaks to split lines (up to 4 lines, 12 characters per line). You can also use ♡ and ☆.
With negative letter spacing, the outlines join into a single mass (easier to cut out and easier to read from far away).

About Uchiwa Lettering Maker | Make Idol Fan-Service Fan Text with Double and Triple Outlines and Print It at Actual Size Across A4 Sheets
The Uchiwa Lettering Maker is a tool for making the lettering on fan-service uchiwa (handheld fans waved at idol concerts and live shows to catch an idol’s attention) and connected letter fans, and printing it at actual size on A4 paper. Just enter your text and pick a member color (the idol’s signature color) to get black text with a white outline and a member-color outline, in double or triple outlines. From the fan size (the official size guideline of 29 cm tall × 26 cm wide, a jumbo fan, or a fan you measured yourself) and the margin from the edge, it automatically calculates the largest size the text can be, and splits it with a 10 mm overlap when it does not fit on A4. Each sheet also prints its row and column position, the red lines to cut along and overlap, and a “this line should be 5 cm” scale, so you can assemble large uchiwa lettering even with a home printer. It also supports connected fans with one big letter per fan, ink-free outline-only templates, and mirror flipping for tracing onto the back of colored paper or cutting sheets.
How to use Uchiwa Lettering Maker | Make Idol Fan-Service Fan Text with Double and Triple Outlines and Print It at Actual Size Across A4 Sheets
- 1Choose “Everything on one fan” or “One letter per fan (connected fans)”
- 2Enter the text for your fan (use line breaks to split lines; common fan-service phrases can also be added with the buttons)
- 3Choose a font and a member color and color pattern (such as black text + white outline + member color), then adjust the outline thickness
- 4Set the fan size (official size guideline, jumbo fan, or enter your own) and the margin from the edge
- 5Press “Print on A4”, then in the print dialog set the paper to A4 and the scale to 100% (actual size)
- 6Check with a ruler that the scale at the bottom right of the paper measures 5 cm, then cut the split sheets along the red dotted lines, overlap and glue them, and cut out along the outer outline
Great for
- You want to make the lettering for a fan-service uchiwa to take to a concert or live show
- You want to print phrases like “wave at me,” “peace sign,” or “point at me” as large as the whole fan
- You want clean white + member-color double or triple outlined lettering without drawing it by hand
- You want to match the size and color scheme of connected-fan letters that you and your friends each hold one of
- You want to split large lettering for a jumbo fan across A4 sheets and print it on a home printer
- You want to print only a template, without color printing, and cut out colored paper or cutting sheets
- You want to make just your idol’s name or message as a transparent PNG to use in another app for your fan design
Good to know
- Fan size rules differ by performance and event. The “official size guideline (29 cm tall × 26 cm wide)” and “jumbo fan (42 cm tall × 37 cm wide)” here are only guidelines, so check the notes for the event you are attending, measure your own fan, and enter it with “Enter size.”
- The text size is the largest size at which the text, including the outermost outline, fits inside the fan face minus the margin from the edge. Uchiwa have rounded corners, so increase the margin a little if the text reaches the corners.
- Outline thickness is set in mm. Changing the text size does not change the outline thickness. “1st outline” is right outside the text, “2nd outline” is outside that, and so on; each thickness is the width it extends beyond the outline inside it.
- Sizes that do not fit on A4 are split so that sheets overlap by 10 mm. Cut along the red dotted line on the 2nd and later sheets, overlap them onto the sheet to the left (or above), glue them where the pattern lines up, and then cut out the shape. The print area is 10 mm inside the paper edge, so nothing is cut off even without borderless printing.
- If you choose “Fit to paper” or “Shrink to fit page” when printing, the output will be smaller than actual size. Choose “100%” or “Actual size” as the scale, and check the 5 cm scale at the bottom right with a ruler.
- In vertical writing, characters such as “ー,” “〜,” and brackets are rotated 90 degrees, and small “っ” and “ゃ” and punctuation are shifted to the upper right. Depending on the font, positions may be slightly off.
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, only the portion containing the characters you enter. If loading fails, your device’s bold font is used instead. The text and settings you enter are only saved in this browser and are never sent to a server.

FAQ
- How big should uchiwa lettering be?
- As a guideline, the outermost outline should fit about 1.5 cm inside the edge of the fan. With this tool, you enter the fan size and margin and it automatically calculates the largest size the text can be. On the official size guideline (29 cm tall × 26 cm wide), “手振って” (wave at me) on a single horizontal line comes to roughly 5 cm per character. Splitting it into two lines lets each character be bigger, so that is also a good option when you want it readable from far away.
- How should I choose colors for double and triple outlines?
- The classic is a double outline of “black text + white outline + member color.” The white outline separates the text from the outer member color, so it stays readable from far away. If you will stick it on a black fan, making the outermost outline black keeps the cut edge from standing out. Choose a color under “Member color” and then press a color pattern, and double or triple outline combinations are built in that color.
- Can I print uchiwa lettering larger than A4 on a home printer?
- Yes. Sizes that do not fit on A4 are split into several sheets with a 10 mm overlap. Each sheet prints its row and column position, so cut the 2nd and later sheets along the red dotted lines, overlap them onto the sheet to the left or above, glue them together, and then cut out the shape. The tool automatically chooses portrait or landscape, whichever needs fewer sheets.
- How do I make lettering for connected fans?
- Choose “One letter per fan (connected fans)” and enter the characters you want to line up. Every character is calculated at the same size so that each fills one fan. Small characters are printed several to an A4 sheet, and large ones are split across sheets. If you are making them with friends, use “Copy this design’s URL” to send the same settings.
- Can I print only a template without color printing?
- Turn on “Print as template (outlines only)” and only the boundaries between the text and outlines are printed as thin lines. It uses almost no ink, which is handy when tracing onto colored paper, cutting sheets, or glitter sheets and cutting them out. If you trace onto the back of colored paper, also turn on “Print mirror-flipped.”
- The text comes out smaller when I print.
- If the scale in the print dialog is set to “Fit to paper,” the output shrinks a little. Set the scale to “100%” or “Actual size.” The paper has a “this line should be 5 cm” scale at the bottom right, so you can measure it with a ruler to confirm it printed at the correct size. For convenience-store net printing, save as PNG and choose “A4, actual size.”
